Wage Reforms Gathers STEAM

More employers are heeding the call for wage reforms and unionized companies are leading by example. Use of Family Recreation Fund Vouchers

NTUC has recently conducted the balloting for union members who had applied for the additional $0.5 million worth of Family Recreation Fund vouchers, sponsored by NTUC Club. Each successful member will get $100 worth of NTUC Club vouchers!

259 lucky members of UTES have been informed via letter by UTES on the 6 March 2006. Successful members must bring along the letter, together with NRIC or Company ID Pass for the collection of the Family Recreation Fund vouchers worth $100 at our office.

If you are not able to collect the vouchers personally, you may authorize a 3rd party to collect the vouchers on your behalf. A ‘Letter of Authorisation’ is required for verification. The closing date of collection is 31 March 2006.

As NTUC Club has informed that less than 30% of $1 million worth of vouchers were redeemed in 2005, we would like to remind the successful members in 2005 and 2006 to utilize the vouchers before the expiry date which is 31 August 2006.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT FUND & BACK TO SCHOOL VOUCHERS

UTES is pleased to share with all members that a total of 1124 members have successfully received the public transport fund vouchers in the year 2005, worth a total of $56,200!

As for the Back to School Vouchers, 686 children of 325 members have received the vouchers worth a total of $68,800!

GENERAL PURPOSE LOAN (GPL) BY UTES Co-operative

The GPL administered by UTES Co-operative can only provide loans to UTES members who are members of the UTES Co-operative as well. As such, new members who join UTES and are not Co-operative members need to apply for Co-operative membership in order to be eligible for taking up the loan.

To join the UTES Co-operative, UTES members have to purchase the Co-operative shares at the total value of $5 ($1 per UTES Co-operative share) to join Co-operative as members.

Terms and Conditions apply.

Want to join the Union and don’t have a hardcopy photograph?

Fret no more! UTES now accepts soft copies of your photographs! As a means of improving our services to members, UTES has introduced this new facility where members can send their best picture via email. In the past, new applicants must take the trouble to take the passport size pictures and then send it to UTES for the process of membership application. Applicants can send their photos (one colour background required) to membership@utes.org.sg with the subject “Photo Submission”.

This new and convenience way of photo submission would circumvent the problem the late submission of new applicants’ photographs should only a hard copy be accepted.

U Movies Specials

What starts as an insightful, analytical and thought-provoking film slowly degenerates into nothing much more than a 164-minute celluloid universe bordering on kitsch.

What was touted as a gripping suspense thriller set in the aftermath of the massacre of eleven Israeli athletes at the 1972 Munch Olympics leaves the viewer in much “cold-turkey” throughout the film after a promising opening sequence.

In Munich, Spielberg unsuccessfully tries to intellectualize...
