A May Day Carnival & Concert 2005 will be held at Esplanade – Waterfront Bay for union members and their families on 1 st May 2005, Sunday, 4.00pm-9.30pm .

Expect carnival games, children rides, stage performances at Esplanade open theatre and fireworks display! You will also enjoy concert performances by popular local and overseas artistes, such as Singapore Idol Taufik and Sylvester, Frances Yip and Ning Baizura!

Indeed, it’s an event not to be missed! As tickets are limited, each union member is entitled to 2 tickets only, subjected to a first-come-first-served basis and whilst stocks last. No phone reservation is allowed.

Job Re-Creation Gets An Airing

UTES HQ will hold a briefing by early May at UTES Office for members who have volunteered their services for the May Day Outing on 14 th May 2005. Itinerary details will be shared during the briefing. HQ would inform all when the date of the briefing is confirmed.

UTES has come up with a new Youth Committee, comprising of branch representatives and union members below the aged of 40. This committee will look into planning of exciting and fun activities for all members, targeting at the younger ones. As committee members, you will be required to help in coordination of the activities. Once a month, everyone will gather for a fun brainstorming and chit-chat session to share ideas. There will also be opportunities to participate in local & international youth exchange programs with other unions!

Activities such as Sports Fiesta and Wine Appreciation Workshop are already in the pipeline! So members do look out for details in future issues of UTES Newsflash. In NTUC News 15 April 2005, defining key performance indicators and pushing for job re-creation are on unionists’ wish list for this year’s National Wages Council guidelines.

The recommendations are closely watched for they indicate the economy’s health, and what workers may expect in their pay packets. These issues will be discussed later this month by the 18-member tripartite panel and is expected to be unveiled in May.
