Launch of UTES Revamped Website

On 23rd July 2005, UTES is officially launching its revamped website (www.utes.org.sg) at the Members-Get-Together Nite, ‘UTES In-Sync’ at DXO. With the revamp, expect a more interactive and user-friendly interface. It will definitely be a whole new, refreshing experience!

To celebrate the launch of our revamped website, UTES and SingPost are tying up to bring to all our members an exclusive offer on a suite of financial services from ‘SpeedCash’, ‘Care for Life’ and ‘ezyCash’.

G3 Worldwide ASPAC Collective Agreement 2005 Signing Ceremony

UTES is pleased to announce the conclusion of the G3 Worldwide ASPAC Collective Agreement 2005. The signing ceremony was held on 8th July 2005 at Orchard Hotel.

The newly concluded Collective Agreement will serve as a fair tool for the members. It will also mark the beginning of a newly established relationship between the union and management.

Going forward, both parties will continue to strive towards good labour-management relations and ensure that interests of the members are taken care of.

The collective agreement will take effect on 1st July 2005 and is valid for 3 years.

Comcare Assistance Programmes                                                                       TOP

The Comcare Fund was set up in June this year to help needy Singaporeans who require employment, family or financial assistance from the government.

If you need help, all you need to do is to approach your Community Development Council (CDC), your Citizens' Consultative Committee (CCC) or a Family Service Centre (FSC) near you. The officer there will assess your case, and provide you with the necessary help from the available ComCare programmes.

UTES Bursary Awards 2005- Closing Date on 20th July 2005! Final Reminder!

A final reminder to all our members. The closing date for submission of the application for UTES Bursary Award is 20th July 2005. All applications must be completed and submitted together with the required documents, to UTES, 15 Hill Street, Telephone House Complex II, 3rd Storey, Singapore 179352, Attention: Ms Kamilah Bte Mahmood.

The application form and general information on the bursary awards are available on the UTES website http://www.utes.org.sg and UTES PTT Shop at Telephone House, Hill Street, during office hours from 8.30 am to 5.00 pm (Mondays to Fridays) and 8.30 am to 12.00 pm (Saturdays).

Public Transport Fund Vouchers – Extension of Closing Date:29th July 2005!
Good news for our members who missed the dateline for the Public Transport Fund Vouchers! The closing date for submission of application forms has been extended to 29th July 2005! Application forms can be obtained from UTES office from Mr Sebastian, during office hours or our union officials. A soft copy of the form is also herewith attached.

Please note that only hard copy applications will be accepted for consideration. All applications MUST be accompanied by a copy of the applicant’s salary slip. Only successful applicants will be notified by post for collection of vouchers.

“UTES In-Sync” @ DXO!

At the members-get-together night ‘UTES In-Sync’ at DXO on the 23rd July 2005, members were treated to the first glimpse of the revamped UTES website, which was officially launched by UTES General Secretary, Mr Chua Miang Teo. Members were also introduced to UTES very own Youth Committee, the brainchild behind the revamped website. The finale of the night - 10 lucky winners walked away with NTUC Fairprice vouchers worth a total of $25 each, presented by UTES President, S. Logarajah. Indeed, it was a night to remember - fabulous food and drinks, fantastic company and great cheer all round!

To all our members, thank you very much for your support and we look forward to having you for our future UTES activities!

UTES Sports Fiesta 2005
To promote health awareness and total wellness for our members, UTES is organizing a ‘UTES Sports Fiesta’ on 18th September 2005 at East Coast Park. There will be 3 main sports categories –street soccer, captain’s ball and telematch. Top 3 winning teams of each category will walk away with attractive cash prizes, worth a total of $900! All participants will also be given a goodie bag each, filled with yummy drinks and snacks!

Support SingTel Touching Lives Fund

As part of fund-raising efforts for the less privileged children and young people of the six children’s’ charities under the auspices of the National Council of Social Service, SingTel has lined up 2 activities for the Touching Lives Fund.

A special page on SingTel Fold A Heart will appear in TODAY newspaper from now to 5th August 2005. You are encouraged to cut the red rectangle in the special page, follow the instructions on how to fold it into a heart and then drop it into any SingPost post box.

You can also bring the folded hearts to the Lend A Heart @ Millenia Walk event this weekend and drop them into the charity box of your choice. SingTel will donate $1 to the Fund for every folded red heart they receive.

So members, start doing your bit for charity today!

SingTel JO IN –HOUSE Softskills Core Programme
For all SingTel members, HR Learning & OD is rolling out in August 2005 soft skills courses targeted at Junior Officers to help improve their job performance. The programme will provide training in soft skills such as customer relations and process improvement.

You can learn basic principles of good customer service and how to deal with difficult customer situations. This will be taught using group activity, sharing of experiences, interactive sessions and role play. The classes are meant for all who feel that the training would enhance their customer relations skills, and not necessary only for front-liners.

For those who are keen, simply get the approval from your immediate supervisor and sign up through SLMS. Supervisors are also encouraged to nominate staff for these courses.

So members, do not miss out this good opportunity to enhance your communication and relationship skills! Details of the courses can be found in brochures obtainable from UTES Office and SingTel HR Learning & OD.

NTUC UPDATES
SIM University - NTUC Sponsorship 2005

Great news for members who wish to further their studies! SIM University and NTUC have tied up to bring to all members a scholarship programme for degrees, diplomas and graduate diplomas to promote life-long learning.

Applications awarded the sponsorship will join the intake commencing in January 2006. The value of sponsorship is 50% of the total course fee, terms and conditions apply.

All applicants should be Singapore citizens or permanent residents, with impressive academic and co-curricular activities record, strong language skills and be able to demonstrate leadership qualities. You can obtain an application form here or from NTUC Customer Service Centre located on the Basement of NTUC Centre during the sponsorship exercise (from 12 July to 30 September 2005).
