Membership Souvenir Distribution Exercise.

As part of our membership benefits, UTES is once again distributing souvenirs to our members. The souvenir distribution exercise will commence on 27 October 2005. Letters enclosed with distribution locations on designated dates have been sent out to all eligible members who have successful paid-up membership fees as at 1 October 2005. So members do look out for the letter in your mailbox!

UTES will be holding its 23rd Anniversary Dinner and Dance for all members at Orchard Hotel. The theme of the event is “Glitterati Night”. Attractive lucky draw prizes conducted electronically are up for grabs!

Other attractions include Denise, the jazz singing sensation and a special performance by Young UTES.

SNCF-CARE Walk-A-Jog – Participants Wanted!

SNCF is organizing a 2.4km Walk-A-Jog to raise funds for its adopted charity, the Children-At-risk Empowerment Association (CARE), a Voluntary Welfare Organization (VWO). CARE is an affiliate of National Council of Social Service and is a registered charity with Institution of Public Character (IPC) status.

Highlights of the event include a Kebaya aerobics demonstration, Martial art demonstration and
Performance by CARE’s Students.

UTES Welfare Benefits for Members.

Over the years, UTES has been dedicated to helping members ease their financial needs through the various grants, funds and schemes available. These include ‘Get-well Wishes’ Beverage Basket, Benevolent Grant, Hospitalization Reimbursement, Medical Assistance Scheme, Bursary Awards, SLF Gift Plus, SLF Hardship Grant, NTUC FairPrice Vouchers Scheme, Public Transport Assistance Vouchers Scheme, Public Transport Fund, Family Recreation Fund and Back-to-school Programme.

In addition, each year, every member will receive an annual membership gift in appreciation of their support towards the union.

For FY04/05, a total of $262,605.00 was given out to members. And for FY05/06 up to the month of September, the figure stands at $162,151.15.

Going forward, UTES will continue to do its utmost in providing financial assistance to our members, whenever required. We also hope to receive the continued cooperation and support of our members!

Want to play journalist for a day? Well, here's your chance!

The "Photojournalism Contest" of "Vitality and Me" organized by NTUC Eldercare is now open to all adults and secondary school students to have a go at their writing skills. Imagine yourself as a journalist and you are covering the story of Seniors at play, exercising or with family members. Pick one of the photographs (A to F) and give it a creative caption and a short editorial write up of not more than 50 words reporting the scene depicted as though you were personally there. Your paragraph should inspire readers to read about Seniors in a postive way.

Overcoming Challenges of an Aging Workforce

In the 28 October issue of NTUC News, NTUC announced that it is keen to work with early adopters to raise employment rates of older workers. In the words of Mr Lim Swee Say, NTUC Deputy Secretary-General, ‘Simply put, our aim is to increase the employment rates of workers in the 50s and the re-employment rate of workers in the 60s.’

Membership Souvenir Distribution Exercise Update

The membership souvenir distribution exercise has commenced! About 1000 members have collected the souvenir at our designated distribution centres since 27 October 2005! All members would have received a letter in their mail box to inform them on the collection of the souvenir by now. Original letters must be produced upon collection at the various work locations according to the distribution schedule attached with the letter, or at UTES office during office hours.
