UTES was formed in October 1982 as a house union representing employees of Singapore Telecom Group. In 1993, constitutional amendments were made which transformed UTES into an industrial union. Being an Industrial Union since then, today, UTES represent workers belonging to different companies and its subsidiaries.
The Executive Body of the Union is the Executive Council. It comprises of delegates elected every 4 years at the Conference of Representatives - the Supreme Authority of UTES. Representation is made at the Branch level, and each Branch depending on the membership strength can consist of 15 to 20 Union Officials. These officials too, are elected every 4 years by their respective Branch members.
UTES has altogether 33 elected union officials and 5 employees to serve the membership of more than 8100.

Our Logo
A Logo Design Competition organized by UTES in 1998 invited members as well as students from the tertiary institutions to participate. The competition was intense as the designs were all unique and outstanding. The winning design was eventually conceptualized by a student from Temasek Polytechnic. The letters, UTES, are slightly slanted signifying a forward-looking and dynamic approach to the industry.
The postal and telecommunication industry is symbolically represented by the edges of a postage stamp and the radiating waves. Its perpetual motion reflects a dynamic and progressive union reaching out to the union members it represents.
